Personal Development lies at the cornerstone of our curriculum and ethos
At HLC Primary, Personal Development is at the heart of our curriculum and woven through every part of school life. We believe that alongside excellent academic learning, children should leave us as confident, responsible, kind and respectful young people – ready to make a positive difference in the world.
We teach our children how to be global citizens of the future. Our Personal Development offer helps every child understand their role in society, value themselves and others, and aspire to succeed in whatever path they choose.
We take a clear three-step approach to Personal Development:
- Our Curriculum
Our broad and rich curriculum ensures that Personal Development is built into everyday learning. We deliver a comprehensive PSHE curriculum, which includes Relationships, Sex and Health Education (RSHE), helping children to learn how to keep themselves healthy, safe and respectful of others. We also promote British Values, giving our pupils a strong foundation for life in modern Britain. - Whole-School Approaches
Personal Development doesn’t stop at classroom learning. We have a thriving Student Parliament which gives children a real voice in school life. Our Safe Squad helps pupils look after each other and our school environment. We run a wide range of free after-school clubs that encourage children to explore interests, develop skills and build friendships. We also work closely with the Healthy Telford team to promote healthy lifestyles and wellbeing for all. - Year Group–Targeted Opportunities
Every year group has tailored Personal Development opportunities to ensure children get what they need at each stage of their journey through HLC. We prepare children for their next steps through thoughtful transition work and activities that build confidence and resilience. From our popular careers fair to sessions about future aspirations, we make sure our pupils are well-prepared for the wider world.
Our Personal Development offer is designed to help every child believe in themselves, feel part of our community, and understand the positive role they can play in their school, local community and the wider world.
