Engaging learning environment

At the heart of our curriculum

As an academy, and across the trust, we appreciate the importance of investing in our campuses to ensure that they are engaging environments for learning, which are safe and nurturing for all our pupils and staff.

Here at HLC Primary, we have a vast range of facilities to support the learning for all our pupils. There are:

  • 22 classrooms
  • A dedicated Nurture Room
  • A Dark Room for sensory support
  • 3 Learning Support Bases
  • 2 school halls
  • 2 fully equipped cooking spaces
  • 5 outdoor spaces:
    • EYFS/KS1 playground
    • KS2 playground
    • Full-size astro turf pitch
    • Forest School area
    • School field
  • An on-site swimming pool
  • A whole-class set of laptops and iPads
  • A well-stocked whole school library

As part of our unique building make up and sharing a site with HLC Secondary, our primary pupils benefit from access to the secondary school’s incredible specialist facilities, including fully equipped Design Technology and Food Technology rooms, advanced science equipment and subject specialists, as well as additional PE spaces and resources. This enriches their learning experience, broadens their skills, and helps to inspire a smooth and ambitious transition into secondary education.

We know that our pupils learn best when their environment reduces their cognitive load. At HLC Primary, the classrooms, corridors and outside spaces that are used for learning are calm and focussed on learning. We provide the necessary resources so that our children are successful and make good progress in all areas of their learning.

Our outdoor spaces are used for PE lessons, playtimes, Forest School, Bikeability and a range of curriculum subjects. They are large spaces where pupils can feel safe and have the space to express themselves, build relationships and practise skills.
