Transitions

Whether your child is joining us for the first time, moving between year groups, or preparing to transition to secondary school, we are committed to making these changes as smooth and positive as possible. Our dedicated staff work with pupils and their families to provide the support and guidance needed during these periods. 

For children transitioning into HLC Primary, we offer a comprehensive induction programme led by our dedicated Transition Manager. From the very beginning, they will meet with parents and children, give tours of the school, introduces families to new class teachers, and spend time with the children on their first day to ensure they feel valued, comfortable, and fully integrated into school life. 

As children move between year groups, we provide structured programs to support these internal transitions. Pupils have the chance to spend time in their new classrooms, meet their new teachers, and participate in activities that build familiarity and ease any anxieties. Our teachers collaborate to ensure a seamless progression in learning, making sure that each child continues to build on their knowledge and skills year after year. 

When it comes time for pupils to transition to secondary school, we implement a thorough preparation process. This includes information sessions, visits to secondary schools, and discussions about the expectations and opportunities ahead. We work closely with local secondary schools, who are part of our family of academies included in the Learning Community Trust, to ensure that our pupils are well-prepared academically, socially, and emotionally for the next stage of their education.

For pupils with additional educational needs, we provide additional support and tailored transition plans to address their unique needs.
