Curriculum

Our vision—Belong, Respect, Inspire, Succeed, and Enjoy—lies at the very heart of the curriculum at Hadley Learning Community Primary School

welcome to

Hadley Learning Community Primary and Nursery

At HLC, we strive to instil a deep sense of belonging in every pupil. Our children feel true ownership of their learning and take pride in being part of the HLC community.

Our curriculum is designed to excite, inspire, and engage all pupils, offering a wealth of rich experiences to learn from. With a strong focus on oracy, we teach children to listen carefully, challenge ideas respectfully, and collaborate effectively to solve problems together.

Hadley and Telford have a proud history of innovation and industry, which is why STEM projects and opportunities play a central role in our curriculum. We actively seek to engage with and enrich our local community, allowing children to feel connected and proud to be part of Hadley Learning Community. We also value and utilise the expertise within our community to enhance children’s learning experiences.

Reading is at the core of our curriculum. Pupils are encouraged, supported, and inspired through a wide range of exciting texts. Every class novel is carefully chosen to link directly to topics studied, providing challenging material for pupils to explore during their Reading Journal lessons.

Our curriculum celebrates individuality and encourages pupils to discover their unique talents while respecting the differences of others. We believe every child can achieve, and throughout their time at HLC, we provide ample opportunities for children to find and develop their strengths. Every success, no matter how small it may seem, is celebrated as a significant step forward in a child’s learning journey.

Pupils with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND) and vulnerable learners are fully supported through thoughtfully planned lessons and resources. Teachers adapt materials and plan so that every learner can achieve the year group’s learning objectives, no matter their starting point. Our expectation is clear: all pupils can succeed. We also focus on developing independence as pupils progress through school, drawing on metacognition research and training from experts like David Hodgson of Osiris Educational.

Above all, our curriculum is about enjoyment—the curiosity to know more and learn more. We aim to nurture lifelong learners with a deep love of learning. Educational visits are carefully planned at meaningful points in the year, directly linked to topics, and reviewed by the children. These visits provide thrilling experiences that enhance learning beyond the classroom. Additionally, we are fortunate to have support from HLC Secondary, offering further clubs and lessons that enrich our curriculum.

We want every child to leave HLC confident, courageous, creative, knowledgeable, resilient, independent, respectful—and with a genuine, deep love of learning that prepares them for life beyond the classroom.
